Tip: turn your yard into a wildlife habitat and mow less, enjoy more native plants/animals!

all you need for a 'wildlife habitat' is a food source, a water source and shelter/protection. This could mean a nearby pond or stream, or filling oyster shells with water for the little critters and a birdbath for the birds. Plant native flowers to attract and support native birds, butterflies and those beautiful hummingbirds. Natives also produce more nectar and are care-free, as they are, well, 'native.' Any brush or cover - perhaps a designated 4 x 6 area of yard you wont mow, with a fruit or seed tree in it, is perfect! i have 15+ pairs of hummers and too many butterflies to count, just on bee balm, coreopsis and lantana -- and they all survive the drought, heat, cold, etc b/c they are native plants!
Plus you dont have to mow often and can easily use an old-fashioned sell-roller mower :)
