Tip: Bury wood chips or logs to retain water and release carbon slowly instead of quickly.

Especially in dry areas, burying a deep layer of wood chips or a section of log will create moisture pockets to aid plants above them. Underground, wood decomposes very slowly, so it lasts a long time and its carbon does not escape soon. Surface mulch rots much faster.
