According to research done by Prof. Donald Stedman of the University of Denver, inventor of the roadside emissions monitor, 80% of the pollution from cars comes from 20% of cars. That is, if those 20% of most polluting cars were not polluting, then 80% of the automobile-caused pollution would be removed.
The success of the federal government's "cash for clunkers" program demonstrates the value of having a program to buy polluting cars off the road.
GreenAroundYou contributions to the cash for cars program will be expended on an experimental program under development similar to the government's "Cash for Clunkers" program. GreenAroundYou's cash for cars program will award money to car owners to get the 20% least sustainable cars either repaired or taken off the road. Factors in determining the 20% that are the most polluting include poor gas mileage and the car's specific emissions test results in states that do emissions testing.
GreenAroundYou will also partner with other "cash for clunkers" programs as they become available.
We are open to providing funding to both nonprofit and for-profit entities to help us remove the most polluting vehicles from the road, with overall efficiency in pollution reduction being the guiding principle. Organizations seeking funding should contact us for details.
We encourage discussion of pollution reduction and research. Feel free to share your thoughts below.
